My cousin used Limewire, a p2p software on my computer last week and downloaded some files. It turned out after that the task manager doesn't appear when i press ctrl+alt+del. and theres a program in the background which keeps opening limewire, which lags the computer after a while. It seems quite serious. Please help me see what is wrong.

Hi Ditrix

I suggest You get rid of Limewire.

Go to Start - Control Panel - Add-Remove Programs
Remove the following if found or any variation:

LimeWire
MsUpdate

Reboot and post new hijackthis log

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />[/color]
Do not PM me with logfiles. They will be deleted.

I have the exact same issues -- LimeWire will continuously reboot itself and ctrl - alt - del doesn't work for me. The problem is that when I try to uninstall LimeWire, it fails. The software dissapears from my computer, but the process still runs every time I reboot and it causes severe lagging.

Anyone know of a solution?

I have the same problem as ditrix and it happened shortly after I uninstalled Limewire because of the self booting over and over of Limewire. Now I cant even get the taskman.exe to work much less do ctl+alt+del. Surely someone has to have an idea how to fix this short of reformating.

Sorry if I'm barging in, may I suggest something?
Your Hijackthis log is showing Alcan/Alcra P2PNetwork worm.
These entries are signs of P2Pnetwork worm:
Fix these entries in Hijackthis:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MsUpdate] C:\Program Files\MsUpdate\MsUpdate.exe /auto
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ms-update] scvhost.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ms-update] scvhost.exe

Please do this:(This will take care of it, follow the instructions pls)
Download Brute Force Uninstaller
https://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip
Unzip it to its own folder (c:\BFU)

Then download Alcra Remover:
https://metallica.geekstogo.com/p2pnetwork.bfu
Save it in the folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Open My Computer and navigate to the c:\BFU folder.
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking "BFU.exe"

In the scriptline to execute field copy and paste
c:\bfu\p2pnetwork.bfu
Press "execute" and let it do it’s job.

Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

The entry below is another variant of P2PNetwork worm:(sometimes removing that entry and deleting the folder is all that's needed but sometimes not, if problem persists then you need the "Brute Force Uninstaller" and "Alcra remover"
Fix that entry:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe /auto

C:\Program Files\winupdates <-- delete this folder

cmd won't stay open because the P2P worm created cmd.com in your system32 folder(it cripples cmd.exe and other utilities)

I'm pretty sure your regedit is not working either.

P2PNetwork worm once executed replaces the system utilities with the following corrupt files:

regedit.com
taskmgr.com
tasklist.com
taskkill.com
netstat.com
tracert.com
ping.com
cmd.com

Users can complain about regedit not working, command prompt not working, and being unable to kill tasks etc. This is caused by the extra files that are dropped in the System(32) directory.

hi!! just joined here to post help on this even tho im not that good with computers!!
i downloaded a file of bearshare recently and then got this virus\worm on my computer. on startup of xp i get a window saying 'failed to run ONOES.EXE.......... close this window then everything seems to be ok, but then my bearshare and limewire open and run on themselves. ctrl+alt+del dont work, regedit doesnt work (although typing regedit.exe works) close limewire and bearshare and they will just open and run again on themselves!!. have read somewhere else that if bearshares open for to long, it starts to download about 1500 tiny zip files. i deleted my limwire and bearshare and downloaded a free antivirus program (AVG antivirus) and ran this, this seemed to get rid of the two files that were causing all the trouble. ctrl+alt+del work now, going reinstall my p2p's but my regedit comand still doesnt work although i have details on how to do it. if you go on google and search for 'onoes.exe' theres a couple of sites like this one with details how to fix, hope ive helped.........................

Check and fix this line:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [qwmo] c:\stub_113_4_0_4_0.exe

after that delete this file:
c:\stub_113_4_0_4_0.exe

reboot and post fresh log....

"Fukurou" wrote: though Im still worried cause I couldnt cancel the task of svchost without my computer having to restart

You are able terminate only this svchost.exe process cause it is part of virus.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\svchost.exe

[red]Legitimate process so you can´t terminate this process cause this prcess is essential for system!!!
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe

Your current Av solution is OK

I suggest for u other internet browser than Internet Explorer (etc.FireFox)(more secure and stable than IE)

another soft:

SpyBot Search & Destroy (freeware)

CCleaner (freeware) - to clean up Temp folders (cause in these folders are located lot of junk files)..periodicly

use this utility

SpywareBlaster (freeware)

Your Hijackthis log is showing Alcan/Alcra P2PNetwork worm.
These entries are signs of P2Pnetwork worm:
Fix these entries in Hijackthis:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MsUpdate] C:\Program Files\MsUpdate\MsUpdate.exe /auto
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ms-update] scvhost.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ms-update] scvhost.exe

Please do this:(This will take care of it, follow the instructions pls)
Download Brute Force Uninstaller
https://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip
Unzip it to its own folder (c:\BFU)

Then download Alcra Remover:
https://metallica.geekstogo.com/p2pnetwork.bfu
Save it in the folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Open My Computer and navigate to the c:\BFU folder.
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking "BFU.exe"

In the scriptline to execute field copy and paste
c:\bfu\p2pnetwork.bfu
Press "execute" and let it do it’s job.

Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Your Hijackthis log is showing Alcan/Alcra P2PNetwork worm.
These entries are signs of P2Pnetwork worm:
Fix these entries in Hijackthis:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MsUpdate] C:\Program Files\MsUpdate\MsUpdate.exe /auto
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ms-update] scvhost.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ms-update] scvhost.exe

Please do this:(This will take care of it, follow the instructions pls)
Download Brute Force Uninstaller
https://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip
Unzip it to its own folder (c:\BFU)

Then download Alcra Remover:
https://metallica.geekstogo.com/p2pnetwork.bfu
Save it in the folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Open My Computer and navigate to the c:\BFU folder.
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking "BFU.exe"

In the scriptline to execute field copy and paste
c:\bfu\p2pnetwork.bfu
Press "execute" and let it do it’s job.

Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

GUYS!! This is the real deal! THIS METHOD GETS RID OF THIS NASTY VIRUS. All of the other forums I visited to were half-way helpful; gave me an idea what was going wrong if anything. But this wiped out my problem in a couple of minutes! God bless ya RPGGAMER GIRL!!
