Discord - Infinite Update Loop w/ BullGuard Active

When attempting to update Discord with BullGuard's protections active, Discord will go into an infinite loop of searching for update, downloading update, and installing update in <1 sec increments. Temporarily disabling the anti virus and firewall protections allow Discord to update normally. Adding exceptions for Discord to the firewall and anti virus does not allow Discord to update normally.



Doing a Google search as to why Discord was doing this pointed me to a handful of forum posts on the first page of Google that pointed to BullGuard's protections being the problem, and sure enough, it was. It is apparently a common enough issue that BullGuard was named specifically as to the cause of the exact issue I described with Discord's updating loop.

I have been there with Discord failing to update and entering into a loop, but for me it was simple enough to delete the failing update and let it update again from scratch. BullGuard doesn't block Discord, since we have gamers at BullGuard it's very easy to spot these issues easily and report them. However, it's always the best to create exception rules for programs that update often such as Discord. You can easily do that in the BullGuard program > Settings > Advanced > Antivirus > Tuning and make sure you add both the executable file of Discord and the Updater executable to Skipped processes. This will allow both processes to be left alone by BullGuard. Also, check that discord is in the Firewall list with Allow.
