I got hit hard. Don't know if this is spyware or virus

Whew...I'm glad you guys are still here. I can't get anywhere else because of a page loading error or 404 errors. Every google result is a redirect. It seems almost like a different site. That is one major problem. The list goes on and on. Every other major tech forum comes up as a page loading error or fire fox was unable to connect to the server. It was really difficult to download programs that I've used in prior virus and malware removals because the links would come up as unable to connect to the server. I couldn't even connect to the microsoft servers to double check updates and patches as recommended my the techs in this forum. All the virus or malware removal hotspots come up as page load errors. It's like my whole computer has been hijacked. Why did I re-download the exe files......because the ones I have won't run.

Programs that won't run:

Mbam-setup(2).exe (and only "2") installs but won't run.
spybot won't connect to the server for updates, so I unchecked that option so it would install, it installed but won't run.
Superanti-spyware>>>>Superanti-spyware has encountered a problem and needs to close.
combofix.exe won't install


When I click on Malwarebytes, spybot, and combofix the hour glass comes up for a split second and then disappears and then nothing.....like I never clicked on it. Fix_download.exe only downloaded two files, ccleaner and FIX_manual.html. I imagine because I couldn't connect to the server. CCleaner is already installed from prior virus removal and works fine.

I finally managed to get to the windows live onecare on-line scanner by searching for it under the images tab in google. After clicking through a few links a full on-line scan turned up nothing. McAfee is my protection and it turned up nothing.

Please keep in mind that if given a link I'll probably get a 404 error or page loading error. It's like my connection is hijacked. I'm able to download from the site that Mbam-setup(2).exe is hosted.

A day or so a go I was hit hard and I've removed infections before without posting so I always do research. I deleted the following files from system32

Karna.dat
brastk.exe
wini10802.exe.

This removed a fake alert and who knows what else. Everything seemed fine and then today, this happens. I don't know if they're connected or separate incidences. I've been at this for a while now and realizing that my internet connection has been compromised to some degree because I just couldn't get anywhere with the redirects, 404s and the page loading errors, I ran into some posts about host files. I deleted all the host files out of C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc because I figured they've been tampered with. "etc" is now empty. I think this was very stupid. I could probably use some help on that as well.

Anyways, this one is a duzy because it won't connect to any major support sites that host free programs including microsoft and the programs won't even run. Hijack this is the only program that worked. I couldn't disable McAfee because the "start here" page comes up blank. P2P software has been removed. Version 1.99.1 and Version 2.0.2.
I know posting two version is not in the instructions but I figured any and all info will be helpful. Thanks a ton!!

Just want to let you know that some links work and some don't. Sometimes it works after copying and pasting the URL into the browser. My internet connection isn't totally useless. If you have suggestions that involve other hotspots, it's not totally out of the question.

Step 1: Click Tools
Step 2: Choose Internet Options
Step 3: Clcik the Connections tab
Step 4: Click the LAN Settings button
Step 5: Uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN
Step 6: Click the OK button and then OK again

Sorry for the late reply. It didn't help, I checked 7 items. I hope that was right, had a little trouble reading your post.
I did a google search for wikipedia and click on the result that has the correct URL to the site and I get redirected and none of the other anti programs still do not work. I got redirected to antivirus2009 or whatever. Other times I get redirected to other search engines. The main anti sites simply do no connect. It sucks.

This can't be right. Mcafee network manager is showing several different computers hooked up to my computer. The funny thing is is I have no network. Its just me, my computer, the modem and the cable that runs in the wall.

Hello Touch.

I've completely uninstalled McAfee via control panel and ran a search for McAfee files and deleted all McAfee files.
I hate McAfee. Its free with comcast. I also ran a full scan with Microsoft windows malicious software tool and it came up with squat. Window live onecare safety scanner is the only on-line scanner I can get to and a full scan came up with nothing. Here are the logs without McAfee.

Touch, I noticed that there are two svchost.exe processes running according to the logs. There is only one in system32. Could this be the culprit? If so, which process do I delete? What do you think?

Also, version 2.0.2 Hijack log shows NOTEPAD.EXE that runs or is running. I googled it and results show that this could be associated with a virus. The notepad.exe in system32 is in all lowercase letters. Don't know if that says anything or not. What do you think?

Also do not forget to set the default disinfection action to

Sorry Touch. No luck. The first link takes me to a page that says "index of ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/" and has folder labeled "Up to higher level directory"
After I click on that it just keeps going higher and higher until finally page load error. My browsers give loading and page errors with the other link.

Microsoft just released a security update for hijacked computers. This must be what they're talking about. Too late, too little. I can't even download it. I can get to their tech pages but can't get past the download icon.

Security Update for Windows XP (KB958644). Can you archive this update in a winrar archive and upload it onto a file sharing site and give me the link? Don't know if you can do that or don't know if it will work. My system is already compromised. I right clicked on my hard drive and apparently my hard drive is being shared. I check the box that unshares the drive but then it gives my a message that the setting will automatically be reversed to "share this folder" once I reboot. Also, apparently I have a new user labeled "Everyone". Never saw that one before.

I'm totally lost here. Please help. Also, thanks for the Host restore program. That was awesome.
