I cannot download a required MS Update Service Pack 1

Hi Guys,
I have used Malwarebytes and Avast! but still cannot download a required Service Pack.
I think I have a virus.

I get this message every time:

"Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7,
and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297) (update 1 of 3)... failed!"
I have loaded the other updates via Internet Explorer. I use Firefox as my default browser.

What version of windows are you running/SP(Service pack)? IE: WindowsXP SP2

Is this in the mandatory updates or optional?
What are you running wireless or wired? Laptop or desktop?

You should try going to MS site and downloading the file separate then installing it. I had the same problem while fixing some ones computer updating to SP2.

Hi glamdring,

I am running Windows XP on a laptop with a wireless modem, and I am having problems with the download of SP1.
The SP is mandatory.
I will try what you recommend.
